Binge Thinking

Critical Thinking In Prison - Ros Palmer

The year started in an excellent way on many fronts.  Not only do we have tons of great projects and new developments at Go MAD Thinking, but over the Christmas period, probably prompted by the receipt of our Christmas Book - The Little Book of Choices - we have had some wonderful feedback on Making a Difference.

Ian Chakravorty supports a long time contact with books and advice.  She works in a major UK prison and writes that:

"My passion is still working here and I am sure that you and GoMAD could make an impact on the guys.  They certainly love the books - and some of the guys have made real use of the principles.  A few months ago, I was going through the principles with one of the guys - know exactly what you want, have a good reason, make a plan, involve others etc.  He was really getting into it - and I suddenly sussed that he was using the principles as an effective way of planning his next job... let's hope it is an appropriate one!"

We love making a difference in this way.  After all, poor choices invariably come from underdeveloped thinking skills and not being focused on positive solutions.

This put me in mind of one of the most famous celebrity criminals in recent years - Martha Stewart.  Upon leaving prison she made a statement to say that:  "The experience of the last five months in Alderson, West Virginia has been life altering and life affirming. Someday, I hope to have the chance to talk more about all that has happened, the extraordinary people I have met here and all that I have learned. I can tell you now that I feel very fortunate to have had a family that nurtured me, the advantage of an excellent education, and the opportunity to pursue the American dream. You can be sure that I will never forget the friends that I met here, all that they have done to help me over these five months, their children, and the stories they have told me".

Newspaper stories at the time spoke of it certainly being a life affirming time for her.  She managed to shorten her sentence by helping underprivileged women start businesses.

Should any of you work with prisoners or underprivileged people in the UK then do contact us at Go MAD Thinking and we will consider all requests for products and possible help to make a difference.  Please use the Contact Us box below.
