Successful survivor syndrome and beyond...

In 1998, whilst finishing his book ‘The Pillars of Successful Management’, Andy Gilbert created a new booklet on change as he found the topic so compelling. He also had masses of new material on the topic as he had just completed 67 case-studies into what has now become termed “Survivor Syndrome”.

Andy’s key realisation at the time was that when change was mentioned, most organisations took it to mean that things had to change. That systems, procedures, ways of working, location, behaviour, company ownership etc. had to be examined and redesigned. At the time, little emphasis was placed on the changes to human capital.

Today, the impact of change on individuals is widely recognised, but what practical strategies and tools are available to the survivors of change? What measures are put into place to make change effective in this area?

Most individuals are influenced day-to-day by the people they see and communicate with most frequently. For many, this will include their line manger or immediate boss.
