Making A Difference

“As an employee of Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service for over 33 years and a Senior Officer for 15 years of that time, I have had the pleasure of working as part of highly performing emergency service that has maintained and improved much of its delivery of service to the community. In many ways our public reputation is our strength but is also our limiting feature – why change what is a great service? We have without doubt had to work hard to influence culture and ‘change the way we do things around here’.

To assist us in our efforts to improve our Service we have used a number of different external providers in various roles. They have come in many different guises in terms of attitudes, theories and approaches as to what we should do as part of organisational development. To be frank, many have made little or no difference to how people operate when they come to work.

The sessions Go MAD Thinking has delivered have really have made a difference. The three day programme I would suggest has had the most impact by taking people through the Framework. People can see what matters when it comes to making a difference. Then there are the nuggets from everyday life – helpful / hindering thoughts, taxi driver take me there and the dendrites – all things I have heard people talking about around the coffee table. Its stuff that makes people think and offers them different ways of looking at things that will help in a very practical, common sense way.

From these flow the 30 day challenge which is taken back into the workplace where people apply what they have learnt. I have been involved in so many initiatives over the years but for me the investment in Go M.A.D.^® has given us far more than any other external provider. I was talking to an office supervisor the other day and she told me her 30 day challenge was the most satisfying piece of work she had ever done. She had so much pride in what she had achieved and the Service now benefits from that work.
