Helping you to think – Go MAD takes client thinking into orbit 1

Stardate: 24th April 2006... we, the Go MAD crew of thinkers, held our most successful Client Thinking Day (solution focused thinking events free to Go MAD clients) yet at the National Space Centre, Leicester. A range of activities, guest speakers and networking boosted the thinking of 70 of our clients through an out of this world event!! We boldly took their thinking where no thinking had gone before!!

Hosted by Go MAD Thinking Engineer Graham Field, over the course of just one Earth Day we worked with a remarkable guest speaker and a mix of Alien Life Forms, Rocket Pilots, Moon Buggy Racers, Stargazers. Brain Physicists, Spacesuit Technicians and Planet Geologists (otherwise known as clients!) to explore new, remarkable thinking... to challenge existing hindering beliefs and to turn them into helpful ones... to improve their memory and then Breakthrough their thinking.

Andy Gilbert, founder of Go MAD, introduced a session around 'Remarkable Thinking' and produced the Go MAD Remarkable Thinking Rocket...

A question to ask yourself: If you are aiming for remarkable results, how might this structure help you?

Graham delivered a session focusing on the learning we could all take from Star Wars... particularly the beliefs of Yoda and the doubts of Luke Skywalker... and if this means nothing to you, consider the limiting beliefs you might have and where you might have got them from... and how these might be holding you back. Consider also the benefit of involving a worldly wise figure who believes you can achieve... how might this help you? (For more on this specifically, email graham@gomadthinking.com with 'thoughts from Star Wars' as your title and ask him to explain more!)

Our remarkable guest speaker was Michael Tipper (silver medalist in the World Memory Championship). Michael focused on 'Face; The Final Frontier' and how to remember names... including his own 'HANDSHAKES' approach.

Helping teams to think – latest learning 3

In each MAD About Thinking we will share with you our latest thinking and learning about projects, meetings and team development.

Here are our top 3 tips for project teams based on our learning from recent work with a variety of organisations.

1. Check how strong the reason why to succeed is within the team. Does each person within the team have the motivation to see the project through? If not how could their motivation be increased?

2. Generate possibilities. Some project teams run with the same old activities. Ensure that the team engage in quality possibility thinking to cover all angles of the project.

3. Ask high quality questions. Identify what questions if asked would give the project team the ideas and information for a successful project. When faced with a challenge, what question if asked might give you the breakthrough for the way forward.

If you have a project which would benefit from some solution focused
breakthrough thinking contact a Go MAD Thinking Engineer on 01509 891313.

Helping organisations to think – Go MAD Organisational Development Framework 4

Imagine if everyone who worked in an organisation shared the same thinking system, with an easy to understand language, aligned to clearly defined business goals. It makes sense! If everyone is equipped to use the same IT system, why not equip people to use the same thinking system?

The Go MAD Organisational Development Framework allows you to analyse and facilitate change at a macro level.

So, Personal Responsibility becomes Leadership Responsibility; the People involved include employees, customers and other stakeholders; the goal becomes the Vision; the individual Self-Belief becomes the Culture of the organisation; the Reason Why becomes an Organisational Reason Why (e.g. shareholder value); and Planning Priorities becomes a Management Thinking activity in line with the business objectives and direction given by the leadership team.

Adopting a systems thinking approach to organisational change means that we need to consider the individual elements and their impact upon each other. Potentially there will be a need to take action and measure the results of each element. A different set of questions can now be asked to analyse the macro differences leaders are seeking to make and identify weaknesses in the system.

> What is the organisational reason for seeking change?
> What is the leadership vision?
> How strong is the existing culture to support the vision?
> How is the vision being communicated to managers responsible for the planning
and implementation?
> How effectively are the objectives being communicated to other people (employees, customers, suppliers, etc.) to obtain their commitment?
